About Kid's Point
Kid's Point lives up to its name as one of the most forgiving reef breaks in the area, purpose-built by nature for beginner surfers of all ages. Waves here are small and soft, breaking slowly enough to give learners a confidence-boosting ride every time. The relatively protected position keeps conditions manageable even when nearby spots are bumpy. It's an excellent first step for anyone new to reef surfing in Lombok.
Local knowledge
Although Kid's Point is one of Lombok's most forgiving reef breaks, the reef is still live coral and can be sharp — a wipeout at low tide can mean a nasty graze, so reef booties are worth considering for beginners. Watch for the occasional stronger rip along the channel edge when the swell picks up, and keep an eye out for boat and bangka traffic passing close to the break.
Kid's Point sits near the main surf beach along the southwest Lombok coast — park at the roadside near the beachfront warungs and paddle out via the sandy channel, which makes entry and exit straightforward even for first-timers. The wave is easy to reach with a short paddle; exit back through the same channel rather than attempting to land directly on the reef shelf.
A longboard or a wide, thick mini-mal (8–9 ft) is the ideal choice here — extra volume keeps learners afloat on the small, soft walls and makes paddling into slower, mushier waves much easier. On the rare day it bumps up in size, a funboard still handles it well; leave your performance shortboard at home.

It carries the spirit of an older Bali — quiet villages, jungle-clad hills, the towering Mount Rinjani volcano to the north, and a string of perfect bays and headlands along the south coast. The surf scene here is laid-back and adventure-driven rather than polished and packaged.
✈️Getting there
Fly into Lombok International Airport (LOP), near Praya in the centre-south of the island — a short 30–45 minute drive from Kuta Lombok and the main surf zone. There are frequent domestic connections from Jakarta, Surabaya and especially Bali (Denpasar), plus some regional international links.
🛵Getting around
A scooter is the default way to explore Lombok's surf coast — cheap to rent in Kuta and ideal for the dirt tracks leading to Mawi, Are Guling and the quieter bays. Bring board racks or a strap, and ride cautiously: roads range from smooth tarmac to potholed dirt, and rural traffic can be unpredictable.
