Lombok was my second stop after Bali. I had heard it was like Bali twenty years ago: more untouched, more local, more pure. And honestly, it did not disappoint. I went for the waves, but I stayed for the landscapes, the people, and that feeling that time moves slower. I took a 10-day trip, backpack, board, and a moderately tight budget. Here’s the itinerary, the waves, what it cost me… and everything I took away from this magical island.

📅 10-Day Itinerary for Lombok

🛬 Day 1: Arrival in Kuta Lombok

I flew from Bali to Lombok (approx. 30 USD with luggage). From the airport to Kuta, I took a shared taxi (100,000 IDR). I settled into a simple but clean guesthouse, 5 minutes from the center (150,000 IDR per night with breakfast).

🏄‍♂️ Days 2–4: Gerupuk, Inside, and Don Don

I rented a motorbike with a board rack (70,000 IDR/day) and headed to Gerupuk. You take a boat for 50,000–70,000 IDR round trip. Friendly surf, ideal for warming up. Soft waves, relaxed crowd.

🌊 Days 5–6: Seger and Tanjung Aan

Seger is a more technical right with a rocky bottom. I entered with respect. Afterward, a relaxed afternoon at Tanjung Aan: perfect beach, cold beer, and good local food. Surf in the afternoon with a longboard. Free entry. Pure chill vibe.

🔥 Days 7–8: Mawi

More power. Mawi is a left that breaks with strength. I went with mid tide going down, and although I had two wipeouts, I also caught the best wave of the trip. If you don’t feel prepared, it’s better to observe or surf more open.

🌄 Day 9: No Surf Day — Waterfalls in Tetebatu

I rented a motorbike for the day and went up to Tetebatu, inland. Rice fields, fresh air, and hidden waterfalls. Total spending for the day: about 200,000 IDR including food. A good rest for the body.

🏄 Day 10: Last session at Are Guling

One of the lesser-known gems. Fast right, mixed bottom, and a lineup with 5 people. Ideal to say goodbye with good feelings. I returned the motorbike, had a nasi campur for 20,000 IDR, and headed to the airport.

💰 Total Budget (approx.)

  • ✈️ Flight Bali–Lombok: 80 USD
  • 🏨 Accommodation 9 nights: 1,350,000 IDR (~85 USD)
  • 🏍️ Motorbike with rack: 700,000 IDR (~45 USD)
  • 🛶 Boats for surf: 350,000 IDR (~23 USD)
  • 🍛 Local meals: 600,000 IDR (~40 USD)
  • 📶 SIM card + data: 70,000 IDR (~5 USD)
  • 🛍️ Miscellaneous and extras: 250,000 IDR (~16 USD)
💵 Total for 10 days: approx. 295 USD including everything

✅ Conclusion

Lombok is a dream for surfers looking for varied waves, fewer crowds, and a more authentic connection with the island. With a moderate budget, you can have a complete experience: surf, local food, landscapes, and moments you won’t forget. 🌴 If Bali seems too much for you, Lombok awaits you with open doors and a half-empty lineup.
