About Inside Ekas Left
Inside Ekas Left is a sheltered, user-friendly left-hander tucked inside the scenic Ekas Bay on Lombok's south coast. The wave peels consistently along the reef, offering long, workable walls that are well suited to intermediate surfers looking to string together smooth turns. The bay setting keeps things relatively protected from strong winds, extending the window of rideable conditions. It pairs perfectly with a trip to the nearby outer breaks when the swell picks up.
Local knowledge
The reef is shallow at low tide — sea urchins and sharp live coral are the main threats, so reef booties are strongly recommended and a wipeout on the inside section can result in a nasty scrape or puncture. A moderate rip runs along the reef edge on the push and pull of the tide, so be aware of your position relative to the channel. Boat traffic from fishing vessels and the occasional transfer boat crossing the bay warrants a heads-up, particularly on early-morning sessions.
Ekas Bay is reached by heading south from Keruak through Jerowaru toward the village of Ekas — the final stretch is a rough dirt road, so a motorbike or 4WD is ideal. Park near the beachside warungs at Ekas village and paddle out via the channel on the left side of the bay to avoid crossing the reef dry; the inside left sits just a short, easy paddle from the beach. Exit back through the same channel and use the sand patch at the shoreline to come in without stepping on urchins.
A classic shortboard or a mid-length funboard (7'0"–8'0") works beautifully on the long, workable walls — this is not a powerful slab, so extra volume helps you flow through the sections. On smaller, weaker days a fish or hybrid will keep things fun; only step up to a step-up shortboard if a solid south swell is pushing through and the wave is pitching harder than usual.
mellow — relaxed vibe.

Surfing in Lombok
Full Lombok surf guide →Lombok sits just east of Bali, separated by the deep Lombok Strait, and remains one of the most rewarding surf destinations in the Indonesian archipelago. It carries the spirit of an older Bali — quiet villages, jungle-clad hills, the towering Mount Rinjani volcano to the north, and a string of perfect bays and headlands along the south coast. The surf scene here is laid-back and adventure-driven rather than polished and packaged.
✈️Getting there
Fly into Lombok International Airport (LOP), near Praya in the centre-south of the island — a short 30–45 minute drive from Kuta Lombok and the main surf zone. There are frequent domestic connections from Jakarta, Surabaya and especially Bali (Denpasar), plus some regional international links.
🛵Getting around
A scooter is the default way to explore Lombok's surf coast — cheap to rent in Kuta and ideal for the dirt tracks leading to Mawi, Are Guling and the quieter bays. Bring board racks or a strap, and ride cautiously: roads range from smooth tarmac to potholed dirt, and rural traffic can be unpredictable.
🌤️Climate & season
Lombok has a tropical climate with two clear seasons. The dry season (roughly April–October) is prime time: cleaner conditions, lighter or offshore mornings, and the most consistent south-coast groundswell. This is when nearly every spot — Mawi, Gerupuk, Seger, Are Guling and Desert Point — fires.
