About Yeh Leh
Yeh Leh is a river mouth break on Bali's remote west coast that shapes surprisingly consistent peaks when conditions align. Sandbanks formed by the river mouth create shifting lefts and rights, giving intermediates an unpredictable but rewarding session. The isolated location means crowds are rarely an issue, but it also means you'll want to come prepared. Swell, tide and sand all play a role, so patience pays off here.
Local knowledge
The river mouth pushes a strong outgoing current that can sweep you along the shore and off the sandbanks β read it before paddling out and don't fight it directly. After rain the river carries debris, murky water and the occasional jellyfish bloom; avoid it for 24β48 hours after heavy downpours. Shallow, shifting sandbars mean the bottom can be closer than you think on a low-tide closeout, and submerged river rocks lurk near the mouth itself.
Yeh Leh sits on Bali's far west coast β take the main road through Negara toward Gilimanuk and turn off toward the coast near Yeh Leh village; the track to the beach is rough dirt so a scooter or 4WD is advisable. Park near the tree line and walk a short distance to the river mouth β there are no formal warungs here, so bring water and snacks. Entry is easiest by timing the river current: paddle across the mouth on an incoming or slack tide to reach the peaks, and exit the same way or walk back along the beach.
A versatile shortboard or a small-wave groveller (fish or hybrid) works well on the typical waist-to-head-high days when the banks are firing. If a solid swell pushes overhead-plus, step up to a slightly longer, fuller board β the shifting peaks reward volume and paddle power over pure performance.

It packs an absurd density of quality breaks into a small island: machine-perfect reef barrels on the Bukit Peninsula, mellow beach breaks on the west coast, and a Bali Sea wave or two over on the east.
βοΈGetting there
Bali is the simplest surf destination in Indonesia to reach. Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) in Denpasar handles direct flights from across Asia and Australia, plus connections worldwide via Jakarta, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Doha and beyond. From Australia it's a short hop from Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Brisbane.
π΅Getting around
The default surfer transport is a scooter (110β150cc). It's cheap, easy to rent daily or monthly, and lets you slip down narrow Bukit lanes and beat the traffic. Bring or rent a board rack/strap. Wear a helmet, ride sober, and know that traffic is chaotic and Bali's road-accident rate is high β many travellers come unstuck here.

Bali has two seasons. The dry season runs roughly April to October β sunny, lower humidity, and the prime surf window for the south and west coasts, with consistent groundswell and clean morning offshore winds. This is peak season; expect crowds and book ahead.
