About Kiddies Corner
Kiddies Corner es la ola más amigable de la bahía de Lagundri, rompiendo en la sección interior resguardada con paredes suaves y perdonadoras, ideales para surfistas que dan sus primeros pasos en un arrecife. Las olas más pequeñas y lentas permiten a los principiantes concentrarse en la técnica sin la intimidación de la potencia del point principal. Es un lugar excelente para ganar confianza bajo la mirada atenta de instructores locales o amigos con más experiencia. Cuando las condiciones son las adecuadas, también puede ser una agradable ola de longboard para sesiones relajadas.
Local knowledge
Aunque es la ola más tranquila de la bahía, sigue rompiendo sobre un arrecife de coral vivo que se vuelve peligrosamente poco profundo con marea baja — se recomiendan encarecidamente los escarpines, y una caída fuerte sobre el arrecife puede causarte cortes. Los erizos de mar se esconden entre las grietas del coral, así que nunca apoyes los pies descuidadamente. Una moderada corriente cruzada recorre la sección interior cuando el swell del sur se hace presente; los principiantes deben mantenerse atentos a su posición respecto al canal del point principal.
Instálate en uno de los warungs o guesthouses que bordean el frente de playa de la bahía de Lagundri — la mayoría está a dos minutos a pie del agua. Entra por el canal de arena en el interior de la bahía, a la derecha del point principal de Sorake/Lagundri; esto evita las secciones de coral más someras y es el acceso que usan a diario alumnos e instructores locales. Sal por el mismo sitio y estate atento a algún taxi acuático o bote que transporte surfistas hacia el point.
Un longboard o funboard grande (9'0"–10'0") es ideal para aprovechar al máximo las paredes lentas y continuas que ofrece este spot. En los días excepcionales en que un swell del sur sólido mete algo más de potencia en la sección interior, un mid-length (7'6"–8'6") lo maneja sin problemas — aquí no hay ninguna necesidad de una shortboard.

Surfing in Nias
Full Nias surf guide →Off the west coast of North Sumatra, Nias is one of Indonesia's true surf landmarks — home to Lagundri Bay, the right-hand point at the island's southern tip that put the country on the world surf map back in the 1970s. It's a place of pilgrimage, where a single peeling wall over coral has drawn travelling surfers for decades.
✈️Getting there
Most surfers fly into Binaka Airport (GNS) at Gunungsitoli in the north of Nias, usually via Medan (Kualanamu, KNO) on a short domestic hop with Wings Air or similar. From Bali or Jakarta you'll connect through Medan.
🛵Getting around
At Lagundri Bay everything is walkable — the losmen sit right along the point, and you can paddle out from the steps. Many guests don't need transport at all once settled.
🌤️Climate & season
Nias has a tropical equatorial climate — warm and humid year-round, with water temperatures sitting around 27–29°C, so boardshorts and a rash guard are plenty (boots for the reef, not warmth).
