About Belongas Bay
Belongas Bay es una de las olas más emocionantes y exigentes de Lombok, que rompe sobre un arrecife poco profundo con potentes y huecas barriles que imponen respeto. El break es conocido sobre todo por sus rápidos y gruesos tubos capaces de aguantar un tamaño considerable, lo que atrae a surfistas experimentados dispuestos a asumir el compromiso. Las multitudes son escasas gracias a su ubicación remota, recompensando a quienes hacen el viaje con olas de clase mundial sin aglomeraciones. El arrecife de Belongas es extremadamente poco profundo y está cubierto de coral vivo y afilado — una caída en el momento equivocado puede provocar laceraciones graves o algo peor. Una poderosa corriente de resaca corre a lo largo del arrecife y puede arrastrar a surfistas desprevenidos hacia la zona de impacto o hacia las rocas; saber leerla y utilizarla a tu favor es fundamental. Se han avistado tiburones oceánicos de punta blanca en la bahía, un riesgo adicional que vale la pena tomar en serio en este remoto emplazamiento de aguas profundas.
Belongas Bay se encuentra en el remoto sur de Lombok — toma la carretera hacia Sekotong y sigue las indicaciones hacia el pueblo de Belongas; un warung básico cerca de la bahía sirve de referencia y punto de reunión informal. La mejor forma de llegar a la ola es remando por el canal en el lado este del arrecife; estudia la corriente antes de entrar, ya que puede ayudarte en el paddle-out pero castigará al despistado en el regreso. It carries the spirit of an older Bali — quiet villages, jungle-clad hills, the towering Mount Rinjani volcano to the north, and a string of perfect bays and headlands along the south coast. The surf scene here is laid-back and adventure-driven rather than polished and packaged.
✈️Getting there
Fly into Lombok International Airport (LOP), near Praya in the centre-south of the island — a short 30–45 minute drive from Kuta Lombok and the main surf zone. There are frequent domestic connections from Jakarta, Surabaya and especially Bali (Denpasar), plus some regional international links.
🛵Getting around
A scooter is the default way to explore Lombok's surf coast — cheap to rent in Kuta and ideal for the dirt tracks leading to Mawi, Are Guling and the quieter bays. Bring board racks or a strap, and ride cautiously: roads range from smooth tarmac to potholed dirt, and rural traffic can be unpredictable.
