About Canggu
Canggu es uno de los epicentros del surf moderno en Bali, famosa no solo por sus olas sino también por su vibrante estilo de vida, cafés, espacios de coworking y comunidad internacional. Situada al norte de Seminyak, Canggu cuenta con varios spots a lo largo del mismo tramo de costa: Batu Bolong, Old Man's, Echo Beach y Pererenan, cada uno con características propias que se adaptan a todos los niveles. Canggu es ideal tanto para principiantes que quieren aprender en una ola amigable como para surfistas de nivel intermedio y avanzado que buscan paredes más potentes y maniobrabres, o incluso secciones tubulares en días grandes. Además, todo el entorno está pensado para el surfista moderno: tiendas, alojamientos, alquiler de tablas, cafés saludables, vida nocturna y atardeceres inolvidables.
Local knowledge
El arrecife aquí es principalmente roca volcánica plana y coral irregular en lugar de coral cortante, pero se vuelve poco profundo y traicionero con la marea baja, especialmente en Echo Beach, donde la zona de takeoff se seca rápidamente — es fácil enganchar un fin o llevarse un raspón. El mayor peligro es el crowd: este tramo está lleno de principiantes, grupos de escuelas de surf y turistas sin ningún tipo de conciencia, por lo que las tablas sueltas, las olas robadas y los choques son el riesgo real. Una fuerte corriente lateral puede arrastrarte playa abajo en días de mayor swell, y hay tráfico constante de embarcaciones y SUP en el interior.
Acceso fácil por carretera — aparca tu scooter en cualquiera de los warungs que bordean Batu Bolong, Old Man's, Echo Beach o Pererenan y baja directamente a la arena. Paddea desde la playa; en Batu Bolong y Old Man's el paddle es tranquilo desde la arena, mientras que en Echo Beach es mejor entrar desde las rocas con marea alta para evitar el arrecife interior poco profundo al salir. Hay numerosos cafés, alquiler de tablas y beach bars justo detrás del lineup por si necesitas cualquier cosa.
Una shortboard normal funciona bien en los días con olas medianas a grandes y con fuerza, pero en las sesiones típicas de Canggu con olas pequeñas y suaves, una fish, una mid-length o una groveler te permitirá coger muchas más olas. Las longboards están en su elemento en Batu Bolong y Old Man's — solo mantén el control en el crowd.

It packs an absurd density of quality breaks into a small island: machine-perfect reef barrels on the Bukit Peninsula, mellow beach breaks on the west coast, and a Bali Sea wave or two over on the east.
✈️Getting there
Bali is the simplest surf destination in Indonesia to reach. Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) in Denpasar handles direct flights from across Asia and Australia, plus connections worldwide via Jakarta, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Doha and beyond. From Australia it's a short hop from Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Brisbane.
🛵Getting around
The default surfer transport is a scooter (110–150cc). It's cheap, easy to rent daily or monthly, and lets you slip down narrow Bukit lanes and beat the traffic. Bring or rent a board rack/strap. Wear a helmet, ride sober, and know that traffic is chaotic and Bali's road-accident rate is high — many travellers come unstuck here.

Bali has two seasons. The dry season runs roughly April to October — sunny, lower humidity, and the prime surf window for the south and west coasts, with consistent groundswell and clean morning offshore winds. This is peak season; expect crowds and book ahead.
