About Beng Bengs
Beng Beng é uma esquerda suave e divertida localizada na região norte das Mentawai, dentro da famosa área de Playgrounds. É conhecida por sua parede larga, seções manobráveis, fundo relativamente seguro e excelente acessibilidade. Este pico é ideal para surfistas intermediários ou para relaxar após sessões exigentes em Kandui ou Bankvaults. Não é uma onda tubular como as mais famosas das Mentawai, mas sua consistência e forma amigável a tornam uma das favoritas para desfrutar de longas sessões sem pressão. Ao contrário de picos mais intensos como Rifles ou Kandui, Beng Beng é ideal para intermediários, pranchas twin fins, longboarders modernos e freesurfers que buscam fluidez em vez de tubos técnicos. Uma onda muito amada na área de Playgrounds, no norte do arquipélago.
Local knowledge
O recife aqui é mais indulgente do que as quebras mais pesadas de Playgrounds, mas ainda é coral vivo que fica raso por dentro na maré baixa, então espere cortes e o ocasional ouriço se você for arrastado para a plataforma. O principal perigo é a multidão — esta é uma das ondas mais acessíveis e amigáveis para iniciantes na área, então barcos charter e grupos de surf camp se acumulam rapidamente e as entradas são comuns. Fique atento à corrente suave que corre ao longo do recife em swells maiores.
Acesso apenas por barco, como o resto das Mentawai do norte — você chegará de lancha ou bote a partir do seu charter ou de um acampamento na área de Playgrounds (o pico fica bem no cluster de Playgrounds, perto de Karangmajat/Nyang Nyang). Pule do barco no canal na borda e reme para a lineup; saia da mesma forma em direção ao canal, em vez de sobre o recife interno seco na maré baixa.
Esta é uma esquerda divertida e de parede suave que recompensa uma prancha divertida — sua prancha curta do dia a dia funciona, mas realmente brilha em um twin/fish nos dias menores e um longboard moderno ou de comprimento médio é uma diversão aqui. Não há necessidade de uma step-up ou gun, a menos que um swell grande esteja passando, caso em que pegue um pouco mais de comprimento para poder remar.

Surfing in Mentawai
Full Mentawai surf guide →If there's one name that makes surfers go quiet and start saving, it's the Mentawai. This remote archipelago of more than 70 islands sits off the west coast of Sumatra, fully exposed to raw Indian Ocean swell, and it has earned its reputation as one of the most concentrated, high-quality wave zones on Earth.
✈️Getting there
All routes run through Padang, the port city in West Sumatra. Fly into Padang's Minangkabau International Airport (PDG), usually via Jakarta, or via Kuala Lumpur or Singapore on regional carriers.
🛵Getting around
The Mentawai are about boats, not roads. Once you arrive, your daily transport to the waves is by boat — either the liveaboard itself or the resort's tenders and speedboats running surfers out to the breaks.
🌤️Climate & season
The Mentawai are equatorial, hot and humid year-round, with water warm enough for boardshorts or a thin top (roughly 27–29°C). There's no real winter — just wetter and drier patterns.
