About Ekas Inside
Ekas Inside is a sheltered, easy-going reef break in the spectacular Ekas Bay on Lombok's southeast tip, offering beginners a gentle introduction to reef surfing in a stunning, remote setting. Waves are mellow and consistent enough to keep a learner busy without ever feeling overwhelming. The bay's natural protection takes the edge off bigger swells, keeping the inside section approachable. The relative seclusion of Ekas means uncrowded line-ups are the norm.
Local knowledge
Despite its beginner-friendly reputation, this is still a reef break — the coral beneath you is shallow, sharp and live, so even a minor wipeout can result on cuts if you're not careful; always wear reef booties. Sea urchins hide in crevices along the reef edge, so avoid touching the bottom or reef with bare hands and feet. Rips are generally mild inside the bay, but watch for lateral currents that can push you toward the bommies on the edges of the inside section.
Ekas Bay sits on Lombok's remote southeast tip — take the road through Jerowaru toward Ekas village; the final stretch is rough sealed/dirt road so a scooter or 4WD is recommended. Park near the small warungs by the beachfront in Ekas village and paddle out directly from the sandy shore, which makes for an easy, reef-free entry; exit the same way, timing your return to the sand between sets. Boat charters from Kuta Lombok (roughly 45–60 minutes) are a comfortable alternative and increasingly popular.
A longboard or a generous funboard (8–9 ft) is ideal for making the most of Ekas Inside's soft, rolling waves on typical days. On the rare larger swell that sneaks into the bay, a mid-length around 7'6" will give you a bit more control without sacrificing paddle power.
mellow — relaxed vibe.

Surfing in Lombok
Full Lombok surf guide →Lombok sits just east of Bali, separated by the deep Lombok Strait, and remains one of the most rewarding surf destinations in the Indonesian archipelago. It carries the spirit of an older Bali — quiet villages, jungle-clad hills, the towering Mount Rinjani volcano to the north, and a string of perfect bays and headlands along the south coast. The surf scene here is laid-back and adventure-driven rather than polished and packaged.
✈️Getting there
Fly into Lombok International Airport (LOP), near Praya in the centre-south of the island — a short 30–45 minute drive from Kuta Lombok and the main surf zone. There are frequent domestic connections from Jakarta, Surabaya and especially Bali (Denpasar), plus some regional international links.
🛵Getting around
A scooter is the default way to explore Lombok's surf coast — cheap to rent in Kuta and ideal for the dirt tracks leading to Mawi, Are Guling and the quieter bays. Bring board racks or a strap, and ride cautiously: roads range from smooth tarmac to potholed dirt, and rural traffic can be unpredictable.
🌤️Climate & season
Lombok has a tropical climate with two clear seasons. The dry season (roughly April–October) is prime time: cleaner conditions, lighter or offshore mornings, and the most consistent south-coast groundswell. This is when nearly every spot — Mawi, Gerupuk, Seger, Are Guling and Desert Point — fires.
