About Gerupuk
Gerupuk est une grande baie située à l'est de Kuta Lombok, célèbre pour ses cinq pics différents accessibles uniquement par bateau. Cet endroit offre des vagues toute l'année, une bonne infrastructure locale, et une ambiance authentiquement surf, idéale pour les débutants et les surfeurs avancés à la recherche de constance et d'accès facile. Depuis le rivage, des excursions en bateau sont organisées quotidiennement vers les différentes vagues, qui varient en taille, puissance et difficulté. C'est un terrain d'entraînement parfait pour améliorer sa technique, apprendre à lire la mer, et surfer sans se soucier de la foule ou d'un récif dangereux.
Local knowledge
La plupart des pics de Gerupuk se brisent sur un récif, mais c'est généralement plus indulgent que les lourdes dalles plus à l'ouest — les principales préoccupations sont les coraux vivants peu profonds et les oursins à marée basse (surtout à l'intérieur au Kids Point/Inside et sur le fond rocheux à Don-Don), donc des chaussons sont recommandés. La baie voit beaucoup de trafic de bateaux transportant des surfeurs et des courants entraînés par les marées qui peuvent vous tirer vers le chenal, donc restez vigilant par rapport aux bateaux-taxis stationnés dans le lineup. Outside Right (Outside Gerupuk) reçoit plus de puissance et une descente plus rapide lorsque le swell est présent, ce qui est là où les intermédiaires se retrouvent coincés à l'intérieur.
Conduisez jusqu'au village de Gerupuk à l'est de Kuta Lombok, garez-vous près des warungs en bord de mer et des bateaux de pêche, et négociez un taxi-bateau depuis la plage — les cinq pics sont accessibles uniquement par bateau et le trajet dure de 5 à 15 minutes selon la vague. Organisez un horaire de ramassage avec votre batelier, et utilisez le bateau pour entrer et sortir du lineup plutôt que de pagayer dans le long chenal sujet aux courants. Il y a beaucoup de warungs, d'écoles de surf et de locations de planches sur la plage, donc c'est une journée logistique facile.
Apportez votre planche de shortboard habituelle pour les jours plus puissants à Outside Right ; sur les pics intérieurs plus petits et plus dodus comme Kids Point, un fish ou une planche de groveler vous permettra de rester en mouvement. Augmentez d'un demi-pied si un vrai swell arrive à l'extérieur, mais la plupart des jours, une planche polyvalente suffit.

The surf scene here is laid-back and adventure-driven rather than polished and packaged.
✈️Getting there
Fly into Lombok International Airport (LOP), near Praya in the centre-south of the island — a short 30–45 minute drive from Kuta Lombok and the main surf zone. There are frequent domestic connections from Jakarta, Surabaya and especially Bali (Denpasar), plus some regional international links.
🛵Getting around
A scooter is the default way to explore Lombok's surf coast — cheap to rent in Kuta and ideal for the dirt tracks leading to Mawi, Are Guling and the quieter bays. Bring board racks or a strap, and ride cautiously: roads range from smooth tarmac to potholed dirt, and rural traffic can be unpredictable.

Lombok has a tropical climate with two clear seasons. The dry season (roughly April–October) is prime time: cleaner conditions, lighter or offshore mornings, and the most consistent south-coast groundswell. This is when nearly every spot — Mawi, Gerupuk, Seger, Are Guling and Desert Point — fires.
