About Kandui Left
Kandui Left, o No-Kandui, es una ola izquierda de altísimo riesgo y altísima recompensa. Ubicada en la región norte del archipiélago de las Mentawai, dentro del área conocida como Playgrounds, esta ola rompe sobre un arrecife afilado y perfectamente formado, generando una de las paredes más rápidas y huecas del mundo. Cuando está en condiciones, Kandui Left es un monstruo: largos barrels, velocidad extrema y secciones ultra técnicas que ponen a prueba a los mejores surfistas del mundo. No es una ola para todos, pero para quienes estén listos, puede darles la ola de sus vidas.
Local knowledge
Arrecife de coral vivo extremadamente somero y afilado como una navaja directamente bajo el barrel — esta ola lanza tapas cuadradas y los wipeouts sobre el arrecife seco son frecuentes, por lo que los cortes, raspaduras de coral y algo peor son un riesgo real en cada caída. El take-off y la sección final rompen sobre el coral más expuesto, y estás a un largo trayecto en bote de cualquier asistencia médica adecuada, así que una laceración grave aquí no es ninguna broma. La corriente es fuerte y arrastra a lo largo del arrecife en swells más grandes, y el lineup puede llenarse de botes charter y la gente del resort cuando está firing.
Acceso únicamente en bote — no hay entrada desde tierra, así que llegarás en bote charter o lancha rápida desde un resort del área de Playgrounds o un liveaboard. Salta del bote en el canal del lado del shoulder y rema hasta el lineup; nunca intentes entrar o salir por el arrecife seco del interior, y espera los sets sentado en el canal. Calcula tu kick-out hacia el canal más profundo en lugar de dejarte arrastrar sobre el coral.
Trae un step-up limpio — un pintail o rounded-pin de 6'4"–6'8" que te permita hacer el drop pronunciado y mantener una línea alta y rápida a través del tubo. This remote archipelago of more than 70 islands sits off the west coast of Sumatra, fully exposed to raw Indian Ocean swell, and it has earned its reputation as one of the most concentrated, high-quality wave zones on Earth.
✈️Getting there
All routes run through Padang, the port city in West Sumatra. Fly into Padang's Minangkabau International Airport (PDG), usually via Jakarta, or via Kuala Lumpur or Singapore on regional carriers.
🛵Getting around
The Mentawai are about boats, not roads. Once you arrive, your daily transport to the waves is by boat — either the liveaboard itself or the resort's tenders and speedboats running surfers out to the breaks.

The Mentawai are equatorial, hot and humid year-round, with water warm enough for boardshorts or a thin top (roughly 27–29°C). There's no real winter — just wetter and drier patterns.
