About Ebay
E-Bay es una izquierda hueca, rápida y extremadamente estética ubicada en la parte norte de las Mentawai, dentro de la zona conocida como Playgrounds. Esta ola rompe sobre un arrecife afilado y predecible, generando barrels cristalinos y secciones críticas, especialmente durante las primeras horas del día. Es ideal para surfistas avanzados que buscan barrels limpios y técnicos, aunque también puede ofrecer secciones más manejables para niveles intermedios cuando las condiciones son más tranquilas.
Local knowledge
El arrecife en E-Bay es poco profundo, afilado y muy poco indulgente, especialmente en la sección interior y con marea baja, donde queda al descubierto sobre coral vivo: quedar atrapado adentro implica un riesgo real de rozaduras, cortes y golpes. La ola es rápida y hueca, por lo que las caídas tienden a lanzarte contra el fondo; los erizos de mar y la corriente ocasional que corre a lo largo del borde del arrecife se suman a los peligros. Con un swell decente y los barcos chárter fondeados en la parte trasera, el spot se llena de surfistas experimentados, así que presta atención al tráfico y a los drop-ins en la zona de salida.
E-Bay es un break accesible solo en barco, en la zona de Playgrounds del norte de las Mentawai, al que se llega en barco chárter o en lancha rápida desde un surf camp o liveaboard: no hay acceso terrestre destacable. Fondea o pídete que te dejen en el canal, en el hombro de la ola, y luego rema hasta el pico; usa el canal para salir y programa tu salida en un momento de calma entre series en lugar de dejarte arrastrar hacia el arrecife interior. Mejor surfeada con marea media-alta para mantener algo de agua sobre el arrecife.

✈️Getting there
All routes run through Padang, the port city in West Sumatra. Fly into Padang's Minangkabau International Airport (PDG), usually via Jakarta, or via Kuala Lumpur or Singapore on regional carriers.
🛵Getting around
The Mentawai are about boats, not roads. Once you arrive, your daily transport to the waves is by boat — either the liveaboard itself or the resort's tenders and speedboats running surfers out to the breaks.
