Pitstops ist ein sanfter, spaßiger und wendiger Rechtsbrecher, der direkt neben E-Bay an der Nordküste der Insel Siberut (Playgrounds-Gebiet) liegt. Diese Welle bricht über ein tieferes, nachgiebigeres Riff, was sie ideal für Fortgeschrittene, moderne Longboards, Quads und Twin Fins macht. Die Welle ist bekannt für ihre offene Wand, ihr freundliches Tempo und ihre Konsistenz, wenn der Swell nicht zu groß ist. Es ist der perfekte Ort, um Fortschritte zu machen, neue Linien auszuprobieren oder einfach ohne Druck zu surfen. Local knowledge
Das Riff hier ist tiefer und nachgiebiger als die meisten Playgrounds-Breaks, aber es ist immer noch lebendes Korallen — erwarten Sie flache Abschnitte bei niedrigem Tide und die üblichen Seeigel, die in den Köpfen versteckt sind. Das Hauptaugenmerk liegt auf dem Inneren der Bucht, wo die Welle in flacheres Korallen übergeht, und dem Bootsverkehr, da Pitstops direkt neben E-Bay in einer belebten Charterzone liegt, in der an einem guten Tag mehrere Boote vor Anker liegen.
Zugang nur mit Boot, wie der Rest der Playgrounds — Sie kommen mit einem Charter- oder Schnellboot von einem Camp in der Umgebung von Siberut an, und die Boote ankern im Kanal direkt am Peak. Paddeln Sie über das tiefere Riff, setzen Sie sich auf die Takeoff-Schulter und halten Sie sich von vor Anker liegenden Booten fern; verlassen Sie den Spot auf die gleiche Weise hinten, anstatt sich von der Welle auf das innere Korallen treiben zu lassen.
Eine nachgiebige, leistungsfreundliche Welle, die lockeres Equipment belohnt — bringen Sie einen Fish, Twin oder Quad an kleinen, spielerischen Tagen mit, oder ein modernes Longboard, wenn Sie die offene Wand nose-riden möchten. This remote archipelago of more than 70 islands sits off the west coast of Sumatra, fully exposed to raw Indian Ocean swell, and it has earned its reputation as one of the most concentrated, high-quality wave zones on Earth.
✈️Getting there
All routes run through Padang, the port city in West Sumatra. Fly into Padang's Minangkabau International Airport (PDG), usually via Jakarta, or via Kuala Lumpur or Singapore on regional carriers.
🛵Getting around
The Mentawai are about boats, not roads. Once you arrive, your daily transport to the waves is by boat — either the liveaboard itself or the resort's tenders and speedboats running surfers out to the breaks.
🌤️Climate & season
The Mentawai are equatorial, hot and humid year-round, with water warm enough for boardshorts or a thin top (roughly 27–29°C). There's no real winter — just wetter and drier patterns.
