About Do'o
Do'o est un reef break tranquille sur Rote qui offre une option plus clémente loin de l'intensité de T-Land et Suckies. La vague propose des murs amicaux et roulants qui permettent aux intermédiaires de surfer à leur propre rythme sans la pression d'une foule nombreuse ou d'une section de reef dangereuse. C'est un bon spot pour surfer lors des jours de petites houles lorsque les plus gros breaks sont plats ou trop petits pour performer. Attendez-vous à une atmosphère détendue et à une vague qui récompense un surf fluide et harmonieux.
Local knowledge
Le reef est peu profond à marée basse et, bien qu'il soit plus clément que les proches T-Land ou Suckies, les coraux exposés et les oursins de mer rendent les chutes inconfortables — des chaussons de reef sont à envisager. Un léger mais persistant courant s'écoule le long du bord du reef et peut surprendre les pagayeurs moins expérimentés ; gardez un œil sur votre position par rapport au pic. Le trafic de bateaux et de bangkas peut augmenter autour du chenal, alors restez vigilant lors de votre sortie.
Rote est accessible par ferry depuis Kupang (Timor Ouest) ou par le petit aéroport régional près de Ba'a. De Ba'a, prenez un ojek ou louez un scooter pour vous rendre au village côtier le plus proche du break — les warungs locaux près de la plage sont des repères utiles et un bon endroit pour demander le chemin exact d'entrée. L'entrée se fait par une simple pagaie à travers le chenal ; évitez de pagayer directement sur le reef en entrant ou en sortant.
Un shortboard polyvalent ou un mid-length (7'0"–8'0") convient parfaitement aux murs roulants et conviviaux de Do'o, vous donnant la puissance de pagaie nécessaire pour attraper les séries plus douces avec aisance. Surfing in Rote
Full Rote surf guide →Rote is Indonesia's southernmost inhabited island, a low, dry, sun-bleached slip of land hanging off the bottom of Timor in East Nusa Tenggara. It's about as far from the Bali crowds as you can get and still find world-class surf — which is exactly the point. The scene revolves around the village of Nemberala (Nembrala) on the west coast, where a string of guesthouses, surf camps and warungs line up behind the reef.
✈️Getting there
Reaching Rote is half the adventure. First fly to Kupang (Timor) — El Tari Airport (KOE) — via Bali (Denpasar) or Jakarta, usually with a connection. From Kupang's Bolok harbour you take the fast ferry across to Rote's port at Ba'a, a crossing of roughly 1.5–2 hours; a slower car ferry also runs but takes longer.

Once you're in Nemberala, most of the popular waves are close — T-Land, Boa and the beach breaks are within easy reach, and several spots are walkable or a short paddle from the main strip.
🌤️Climate & season
Rote has a pronounced dry, savanna-like climate — drier than Bali and noticeably so. The dry season runs roughly May to October and is the surf season: this is when consistent groundswell arrives and the dependable southeast trade winds groom the west-coast lefts, holding most of the season's offshore conditions.
