About Nangadoro
Nangadoro es un reef break fuera de lo común en Sumbawa que recompensa a los surfistas intermedios aventureros dispuestos a alejarse del animado núcleo de Lakey Beach. La ola rompe con forma consistente y ofrece buenas secciones de pared que resultan muy disfrutables para los surfistas en desarrollo que buscan poner a prueba sus habilidades. Las aglomeraciones son mínimas, lo que te da espacio para surfear libremente y a tu ritmo. La lejanía añade encanto al lugar — espera entornos salvajes y sin contaminar, y la íntima satisfacción de encontrar tu propio rincón de Sumbawa.
Local knowledge
El reef es poco profundo y afilado en algunas secciones — los cortes de coral son un riesgo real en las caídas, por lo que se recomiendan encarecidamente los botines. Pueden formarse rips a lo largo del borde del reef, especialmente con el empuje de un swell sólido, así que conoce tu línea de salida antes de paddlear. La lejanía del lugar implica que no hay socorristas, ni clínicas cercanas ni ayuda fácil si algo sale mal; surfea siempre con un compañero.
Nangadoro se encuentra apartado del núcleo de Lakey Beach (Hu'u) — alquila una scooter o un ojek y sigue la pista costera hacia el suroeste; los lugareños cerca del pueblo de Nangadoro pueden indicarte el camino correcto hasta el agua. El paddle-out es relativamente sencillo con swell pequeño o moderado; busca el canal en el borde interior del reef para evitar caminar sobre coral vivo en la entrada y salida. No hay warungs en el break, así que lleva agua y snacks desde Hu'u antes de salir.
Un shortboard versátil de entre 6'2" y 6'6" gestiona bien las secciones de pared en la mayoría de condiciones; trae una fish de ola pequeña o una híbrida para los días más planos y suaves cuando el swell baje de la altura del pecho. No hace falta una tabla de paso para swells intermedios, pero si entra un groundswell sólido, una tabla algo más larga y gruesa te dará más agarre en las secciones más verticales sobre el reef.

Full Sumbawa surf guide →Sumbawa is Indonesia's rugged middle child, sitting east of Lombok and west of Flores, and it remains one of the archipelago's last genuine surf frontiers. Where Bali hums with traffic and beach clubs, Sumbawa offers dry savannah hills, empty white-sand bays, dusty roads and fishing villages where life still moves at its own pace.
✈️Getting there
Most surfers reach Sumbawa overland and by ferry from Bali or Lombok. The classic route is Bali to Lombok, then drive across Lombok to Kayangan and take the public ferry to Poto Tano in West Sumbawa (roughly 1.5–2 hours). From Poto Tano it's a 1–2 hour drive to the Maluk/Sekongkang surf zone.
🛵Getting around
Once on Sumbawa, a scooter is the cheapest and most flexible way to reach nearby breaks, and many surf camps in Maluk and Hu'u rent them with board racks. Roads on the main routes are decent, but expect potholes, livestock, dust in the dry season and stretches of rough or unsealed track to remote bays.

Sumbawa has a dry, hot tropical climate, drier and more arid than Bali, with two clear seasons. The dry season runs roughly April to October — this is prime surf time, with cleaner conditions, consistent groundswell and steady offshore-to-cross trade winds in the mornings.
