About Kertasari
Kertasari es un reef break que ofrece a los surfistas de nivel intermedio una ola de calidad en un rincón relativamente remoto de Sumbawa. El break produce paredes constantes y surfeables, con suficiente forma y empuje para lograr sesiones satisfactorias, sin la intensidad bruta de los spots más avanzados de la región. El fondo de arrecife requiere siempre cierta precaución, pero los surfistas habituados al reef lo encontrarán muy gratificante. Su ubicación apartada suele mantener el lineup sin aglomeraciones.
Local knowledge
El arrecife es poco profundo y afilado: las caídas con marea baja pueden provocar cortes y arañazos, por lo que merece la pena usar escarpines. Los erizos de mar acechan en las grietas de la zona de entrada y salida, así que arrastra los pies y evita pisar el arrecife. No hay corrientes de resaca importantes con las que lidiar, pero es fundamental vigilar la marea; esta ola se surfea mejor con marea media o alta, cuando el arrecife tiene suficiente agua sobre él.
Kertasari se encuentra en un tramo relativamente remoto de la costa de Sumbawa. La mayoría de los surfistas llegan en carretera desde Sumbawa Besar o Hu'u, por una pista en mal estado que baja hacia la costa; se recomienda encarecidamente un 4WD o una moto. La entrada es directamente sobre el arrecife o a través de un canal arenoso en el interior, según las condiciones: observa el lineup desde la orilla antes de hacer el paddle out. No hay warungs cerca del break, así que lleva tu propia agua y comida; un pequeño asentamiento pesquero cercano podría ofrecer ayuda básica.
Un shortboard versátil de entre 6'2" y 6'6" cubre la mayoría de las condiciones en Kertasari; la ola tiene suficiente forma y empuje para sacarle partido a una tabla de performance. En días más pequeños y débiles, un fish o un híbrido te ayudará a aprovechar mejor las paredes; si llega un swell sólido, un step-up con mayor volumen bajo el pecho te mantendrá en control.

Full Sumbawa surf guide →Sumbawa is Indonesia's rugged middle child, sitting east of Lombok and west of Flores, and it remains one of the archipelago's last genuine surf frontiers. Where Bali hums with traffic and beach clubs, Sumbawa offers dry savannah hills, empty white-sand bays, dusty roads and fishing villages where life still moves at its own pace.
✈️Getting there
Most surfers reach Sumbawa overland and by ferry from Bali or Lombok. The classic route is Bali to Lombok, then drive across Lombok to Kayangan and take the public ferry to Poto Tano in West Sumbawa (roughly 1.5–2 hours). From Poto Tano it's a 1–2 hour drive to the Maluk/Sekongkang surf zone.
🛵Getting around
Once on Sumbawa, a scooter is the cheapest and most flexible way to reach nearby breaks, and many surf camps in Maluk and Hu'u rent them with board racks. Roads on the main routes are decent, but expect potholes, livestock, dust in the dry season and stretches of rough or unsealed track to remote bays.

Sumbawa has a dry, hot tropical climate, drier and more arid than Bali, with two clear seasons. The dry season runs roughly April to October — this is prime surf time, with cleaner conditions, consistent groundswell and steady offshore-to-cross trade winds in the mornings.
