About Krui Right
Krui Right es la contraparte más exigente de las izquierdas a lo largo de este tramo, generando derechas rápidas y potentes sobre el reef que mantienen alerta a los surfistas avanzados. La ola puede hacer barrel y seccionar rápidamente, lo que exige un surf comprometido y preciso para navegarla bien. El swell del Océano Índico golpea esta costa con verdadera fuerza, así que espera tamaño y potencia en los buenos días. Solo surfistas experimentados y cómodos en reefs poco profundos deberían enfrentarse a ella.
Local knowledge
El reef aquí es poco profundo, afilado e implacable — una caída en una serie sólida puede dejarte sobre coral expuesto con muy poca agua, por lo que los escarpines de reef y el casco merecen una consideración muy seria. Fuertes corrientes del Océano Índico recorren el reef con swells grandes, y la ola secciona tan rápido que quedarse atrapado en el interior es un riesgo real; conocer tu salida antes de remar hacia afuera es fundamental. Los erizos de mar colonizan las zonas más someras del reef, especialmente en las áreas de entrada y salida.
Krui Right se encuentra a lo largo de la costa suroeste de Sumatra, cerca de la ciudad de Krui, en West Lampung — la mayoría de los surfistas se alojan en uno de los surf camps o guesthouses que bordean este tramo de costa y reman directamente desde la playa de enfrente. Una corta caminata hacia el sur desde la franja principal de warungs te lleva al canal; úsalo para remar hacia afuera y evitar tener que cruzar el reef. Con swells más grandes, la entrada y salida por el canal requieren timing y confianza.
Un shortboard de performance (6'2"–6'6") con suficiente volumen para gestionar la potencia y la velocidad es la opción habitual para el surf del día a día; sube a una rounded pin o step-up de 6'8"–7'0" cuando el swell del Océano Índico llegue con tamaño y fuerza. Deja el fish en casa — esta ola premia el surf de rail y las salidas tardías, no el flotar y remar.

Where Bali trades on crowds and nightlife, Sumatra deals in space, jungle backdrops and waves that still feel earned. The swell window here is enormous: the same Indian Ocean groundswells that light up the rest of the archipelago hit Sumatra's exposed western flank first, raw and unfiltered.
✈️Getting there
Most surf trips funnel through Padang, the launch point for the Mentawais, Telos and Banyaks. Fly into Padang (Minangkabau Airport, PDG) via Jakarta — and Jakarta connects to Bali and international hubs like Singapore and Kuala Lumpur.
🛵Getting around
On the Sumatran mainland and on Nias, a scooter is the cheap, flexible standard — expect potholed roads, livestock and long, scenic distances between zones. Around Krui the coastal road links a string of spots over many kilometres, so a bike (or a hired car with driver for groups and boards) earns its keep.

Sumatra straddles the equator, so it's hot and humid year-round with water warm enough for boardshorts (a rashguard or 1mm top is plenty).
