Canggu's Batu Bolong ist ein lebhafter Reef-Break, der zu einem der beliebtesten Surfspots auf Bali geworden ist und konstante, zugängliche Wellen bietet, die Anfängern den Einstieg ins Reef-Break-Surfen erleichtern. Die Welle bricht als sanfter Rechtsbrecher, der den Fahrern eine sanfte Einführung in das Lesen von Reef-Peaks und längeren Fahrten als die reinen Beach Breaks weiter im Süden bietet. Es kann voll werden, besonders bei guten Swells, daher sollten Anfänger auf das Vorfahrtsrecht achten und weniger hektische Ecken des Breaks wählen. Trotz seines anfängerfreundlichen Rufs liegt Batu Bolong über lebendem Korallenriff, das bei Niedrigwasser gefährlich flach wird — Riffschürfwunden und Korallenverletzungen sind die häufigsten Verletzungen, daher sind Schuhe und ein Rashguard dringend empfohlen. Starke seitliche Strömungen entwickeln sich bei größeren Swells, und der Peak wird extrem überfüllt mit einer chaotischen Mischung aus Anfängern, Surf-Schülern und Fortgeschrittenen, was Kollisionen zur größten realen Gefahr hier macht. Achte auf lose Bretter, die innen zurückfliegen — das Tragen eines Helms ist für Lernende nicht ungewöhnlich.
Batu Bolong ist leicht zu finden: Fahre zur Jalan Pantai Batu Bolong in Canggu und parke entlang der Straße oder in einem der kleinen kostenpflichtigen Parkplätze in der Nähe des Warung-Streifens, der den Strandtempel (Pura Batu Bolong) flankiert. Paddel durch den Kanal direkt nördlich des Tempels hinaus — dies gibt dir einen sauberen Ein- und Ausstieg vom Riff und ist die Standardroute, die von den Surfschulen genutzt wird. Verlasse den Spot auf die gleiche Weise und achte auf das Wasser, das über das Riff auf der Innenseite abfließt.
Ein Longboard oder ein hochvolumiges Mid-Length (8–9 ft) ist ideal, um die sanften, rollenden Rechte zu erwischen und Anfängern die Stabilität zu geben, um ihre Füße zu finden. ✈️Getting there
Bali is the simplest surf destination in Indonesia to reach. Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) in Denpasar handles direct flights from across Asia and Australia, plus connections worldwide via Jakarta, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Doha and beyond. From Australia it's a short hop from Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Brisbane.
🛵Getting around
The default surfer transport is a scooter (110–150cc). It's cheap, easy to rent daily or monthly, and lets you slip down narrow Bukit lanes and beat the traffic. Bring or rent a board rack/strap. Wear a helmet, ride sober, and know that traffic is chaotic and Bali's road-accident rate is high — many travellers come unstuck here.

Bali has two seasons. The dry season runs roughly April to October — sunny, lower humidity, and the prime surf window for the south and west coasts, with consistent groundswell and clean morning offshore winds. This is peak season; expect crowds and book ahead.
